Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2025 Education Pack

An education pack inspired by the drawings included in the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2025 exhibition.

Published: October 2025
Drawing is Free has collaborated with Drawing Projects UK to create an education pack, “Six Lesson Preparations” inspired by the drawings included in the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2025︎︎︎ exhibition.

This education pack is all about preparing rather than planning – approaching teaching like you'd prepare to work in a studio, keeping everything open to mishaps and false starts and getting wonderfully lost along the way. The pack contains six lesson plans - or ‘lesson preparations’, as ‘preparing’ gets closer to how artists actually work. Each is inspired by selected artists from the exhibition.

They are designed for classrooms, studios, or kitchen tables – wherever you make your work. Each lesson creates space – literally and metaphorically – for drawing to happen courageously, without fear of judgement. Because drawing matters. It connects us, centres us, makes us well in the world.

The pack opens with a conversation between Chloë Briggs and Anita Taylor about drawing's power to educate. They discuss what would happen if drawing sat at the heart of learning, recognised as essential as writing or maths. Drawing is how we see what we think, how we notice, how we connect. It's instinctive, direct, sophisticated – a primary visual language we use daily without realising.

The Lessons

The six lessons explore:

Rhythms/Marks/Immersion
Inspired by Fiona Robinson – dancing your drawing to sound for a full hour, letting writing emerge through ink and rhythm.

Combined Imaginations
Inspired by Vivien Blackett – collaging personal images in pairs, building new worlds from combined memories.

I Have All That I Need
Inspired by Eric Butcher – emptying your pockets and bag, making something from nothing using only what you carry.

Seeing All the Colours
Inspired by Curtis Holder – portrait drawing with six chosen colours that map your partner's emotional landscape.

I See You!
Inspired by Eileen Cooper – creating a chain of artists drawing artists at work, learning by watching.

Private Drawing
Inspired by Olivia Rowland – building cardboard shelters for completely hidden sketchbook work that will never be shown.
